<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Chun Yuen Quan is a very special treasure from China.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It has a history in Shaolin Temple, but if this makes you think of hard and external exercises that only the young can manage, then think again.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Traditional skills are very balanced so everyone can do them, otherwise they would not have stood the test of time.

Master Michael Tse learnt this skill from his Sifu Master Wu Chun Yuen who learnt it from his Sifu, Wang Ping.

Master Wang Ping was famous in the Beijing Opera and kept the skill traditional. This tradition martial art skill meant it considers posture and line of body. A kick is not just with the leg and a punch not just with the arm but the part relates to the whole. In the form Xing Shou, we punch in horse stance. The left hand relates to the right leg and the right hand relates to the left leg. This helps to balance the whole body.

Chun Yuen Quan concentrates on the correct posture of the body so that when bone, joint and muscle are all balanced, then Jing, Qi and Shen will develop. Good posture promotes positve Qi and health. Bad posture will affect the internal organs, the mind and will promote bad health.

Practising Chun Yuen Quan will make your body look good and strong even when we get older. It also makes the body light, not heavy. When we feel heavy and tired and do not feel like moving a lot, then it means that circulation is poor and that there is not enough Qi in the body. Chun Yuen Quan is good at making the body light and so you will feel younger and healthier. Chinese martial art does not just develop muscle but develops the bones. If the bones are strong the muscles will natually grow.

I know that there are a lot of people who really like the Chun Yuen skill and who feel really good after they practice it. You may think you feel to old or to out of shape to try but actually, if you just take it easy and practice the gentle version, you discover you body becomes fit very quickly. You will find that you can even feel better than you did when you were young.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Students comments:
I really enjoyed Sigong Mike Baker's visit to Beccles. I learnt a lot
from him polishing two of my qigong forms. He gave some great advice and
pointed out some very useful (and subtle) things.
I look forward to
incorporating it all into my practise.
Thank you,
Martin
"It was with great anticipation that we awaited Sigong's
third annual visit to our class in Beccles. As usual the wait was
definitely worth it. It is amazing at how Sigong is able to explain the
subtleties of Wing Chun and Qigong in a such a simplistic and easy to
understand way. Each question was answered in depth and with a
demonstration. Sigong's frame belies his power which is incredible. In
one Wing Chun demonstration he performed a simple push that felt like
I'd been knocked over by a small car...amazing!
The
clarity that we learned with regards to Wing Chun and Qigong was very
important. These tiny little adjustments make all the difference to our
forms and it is astounding how you manage to always find something that
you'd never really noticed before when watching Sigong.
The
only complaint that we have is that someone seems to be moving the
clock hands forward, as the time went so fast that we couldn't quite
believe that two hours had gone by in what seemed like the space of a
moment.
We are
looking forward to Sigong's return visit next year, and look forward to
learning more about the arts that we love so much whether it be Wing
Chun, Chun Yuen or Qigong. Many thanks for your help as always Sigong,
and many thanks to Sifu for arranging the seminar.
Kind Regards
Eric and June Paule
I learnt alot from Sigong's visit. Now I have to try to put into practice what I have learnt.
Stewart
Another great Seminar, I was able to see the nuances of Wing Chun from a different perspective.
More please!
'Really lovely to see Sifu back for his third year. Sifu managers to relay simply how forms should be and so the learning process is deepened for the experience. Much to digest.
Qigong in some form has been around in China for 4.000 years. Wild Goose Qigong over 1800 years. You don't have to be a Buddist or Daoist to study it, only to turn up at the class and try something new.
It's amazing how quickly the body responds to Dayan Qigong to begin to improve your health. Working on the meridians, channels and accupunture points using simple breath and movement exercises,one gradually becomes accustom to a new way of being.
It helps to improve one posture, circulation, flexibility and bring a deeper understanding of what relaxation is all about, not intellectually but physically within the body.
Yes I know it's hard to believe I thought that too when I went to my first class, I was cynic then, especially as I could barely touch my knees when I bent over and watching the teacher being so flexi and bendy and then saying 'you'll be able to do this if you do Wild Goose Qigong' was hard to believe. Over time I'm glad to say I can do what she did, and more and it make me feel great. It has given me a purpose to living and enjoying living in my body though of course it's a health skill that needs to be practice daily to really get the benefits.
It has become a way of life for me knowing it can keep me healthy and free of stiffness.
I feel I have been given an oppitunity to fully partake of life without saying 'it's my age you know, can't do what I use to do' Excuse me.... You'll see on the posters advertising Wild Goose Qigong 'Beginners Welcome.
That's all that's required to learn to begin learning. I seen many small mircles of healing; improved flexiblity, circulation, relaxation, better sleeping at night, better posture,improved energy levels and so much more.
It's really a journey of discovery to returning to better health.
However the skill then passed down through the Beijing Opera. The forms have retained more of their martial qualities than modern Wushu and have more intricate weapon forms such as the long-tasseled sword and long flag Dao.
Chun Yuen Quan is very good for health and will make the body light and flexible and also improves the posture and makes the joints strong. Internally it also builds up strong circulation and Qi.
Grandmaster Wu Chun Yuen
& Master Michael Tse
Master Wu Chun Yuen, who taught Michael Tse, learned the skill from Master Wang Ping who was a trainer for the opera actors. In Chinese opera, there are many performances which portray historical events, particularly those remembering famous generals. So it was important that the actors knew genuine martial art skill so that their performance was both vivid and true.
Master Wang, because of his opera training, was very flexible and light. However, due to the sensitive times in which they lived, they could not always practice openly. So Master Wang devised ways to help his students to practice without it being obvious that he was doing so. Instead of practising with a sword and long tassel, they might only use a stick with a long string. However, this in no way stunted Master Wu Chun Yuen’s skill and he developed to a very high level that not many people can reach. Grandmaster Wu Chun Yuen was a true martial art gentleman and his skill level was very high. He was also a very humble person and loved the martial art skill that he practised every day.
Master Tse was introduced to Grandmaster Wu Chun Yuen many years ago. Grandmaster Wu's skill was immediately apparent and he knew he would like to study with him. Of Grandmaster Wu Chu Yuen, Master Tse says, "His movements and postures are some of the best I have ever see. Even when he was in his seventies he could do things that young people in their twenties could not."
Sadly Grandmaster Wu passed away on the 26 February 2003 at the age of 77. However he passed his legacy to Master Tse who renamed the system, Chun Yuen Quan in honour of his memory.
What will I learn in class?
Tse Qigong Centre Warm Ups
Making the body relaxed and loose so that Qi can flow through all the channels is very important in order to avoid injuries. For Chun Yuen we have warm up exercises that begin with opening the waist, then the joints. Later we have different kinds of stretching for the tendons and muscles and also jumping and kicking to develop Light Gong (a light body). Master Tse has created and/or arranged these warm up movements according to his deep Qigong knowledge of how Qi flows in the body and how the internal organs are vital for good health.
Xing Shou & Great Sadness Gong (Da Bei Gong)
Two of the beginning forms in the Chun Yuen Quan syllabus which you will learn is Xing Shou and Great Sadness Gong (Da Bei Gong) . Xing Shou literally means “Style Hand” and helps to establish many of the basic Chun Yuen postures that are used throughout the system.
Great Sadness Gong works for coordination and fitness and it is particularly beneficial for the lungs, helping to release stagnant Qi. It will help anyone suffering from depression, asthma or other breathing problems and at the same time improve blood pressure, fitness and flexibility.
Taught in Beccles
Thursday 8-9pm Hungate Hall, Hungate, Beccles
Contact: Sifu Natasha Etheridge
07961 033357
Sifu Natasha Etheridgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08539589132881766949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8150826388155282543.post-39540783403599139622010-10-25T11:33:00.000-07:002019-03-09T12:26:37.343-08:00New classes in Wing Chun Kung Fu & Chun Yuen Quan in Beccles
